Nestled in the heart of south-central Saskatchewan, the Batoche National Historic Site stands as a testament to the enduring spirit and rich heritage of the Métis Nation. Today, the site is where Métis history comes alive.
The Métis emerged as a distinct Nation in the late 18th century. From the Red River Resistance (1869-70) to the Battle of Batoche (1885) led by Louis Riel, they tirelessly fought for their rights.
Métis fire stewardship utilizes prescribed burning to reduce wildfire risk and foster resilient communities. Through workshops and advocacy, the Métis Nation promotes emergency preparedness and culturally sensitive responses to climate change impacts.
