Expert Panel
The Expert Panel exists by virtue of a resolution at the 2021 MNC Annual General Assembly on 09-29-2021. You can find this resolution contained within the Terms of Reference shared below.
The mandate of the Expert Panel is to review the history of the seven Ontario communities (“Seven Communities”) through the lens of the National Definition and contemporary Métis governance.
The Expert Panel will prepare quarterly reports, which will be submitted to the MNC Board of Governors who will provide it to the MNC General Assembly. The Expert Panel will prepare a Discussion Paper to be presented to the MNC Board of Governors who will adopt or amend to present to the MNC General Assembly.

Written submissions to the Expert Panel are now closed. We thank all those who submitted materials for their contributions.
The Expert Panel will acknowledge submissions (in a non-monetary way) which could include a list at the end of the Expert Panel’s report.
Community Roundtables
The Expert Panel will be conducting a series of roundtables, dates are listed below:
February 27-28, 2024: the afternoon of February 27, 2024 for the Métis Nation of Ontario’s (MNO) Communities; February 28, 2024 for other MNO presenters
March 27th, 2024: MNO Communities who were unable to make February date
March 28th, 2024: Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC) presenters
April 17, 2024: for Métis Nation of Alberta (MNA)
May 22, 2024: for Métis Nation – Saskatchewan (MN-S)
June 14-23, 2024: Community Visits to the Seven (7) Ontario Métis Communities
July 16, 2024: for Métis Artists and Métis Academics
July 17, 2024: for Elders and Youth
July 18, 2024: for Past Presidents

Reporting
The Expert Panel will issue quarterly reports, the dates are listed below:
The Q1 report is due January 26, 2024
The Q2 report is due April 16, 2024
The Q3 report is due July 26, 2024
The final report will be delivered in October 2024.
