Following the developments around the horrific news coming out of Winnipeg, President Cassidy Caron and the Métis National Council implores the Winnipeg Police Department to take immediate action in responding to the calls of the families and communities of Morgan Harris, Marcedes Myran, and Mashkode Bizhiki’ikwe.

“It is unacceptable for the Winnipeg Police Service to stand idly by while actions can be taken to search for and return these women to their families and communities,” said President Caron. “There is an ongoing genocide actively occurring in this country. Indigenous women and 2S kin are being stolen and murdered on our own lands and territories and when it is brought to light, the calls of our people are continuously ignored.”

In solidarity with calls from families, communities, Indigenous peoples, allies, and many levels of government, the Métis National Council lends its voice in calling on the Winnipeg Police Service to search for the remains of these women.

“Our prayers are with the families and communities of those women whose lives have been unjustly stolen. The MNC will continue to press for action on ending the crisis of MMIWG and will not stop advocacy efforts until all Indigenous women and two-spirit kin are safe.”
