MNC Statement of Condolence on the Passing of The Honourable Murray Sinclair
The Métis Nation is profoundly saddened by the passing of Murray Sinclair, an esteemed Anishinaabe leader from Peguis First Nation, former senator, and head of Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
Murray Sinclair’s unwavering commitment to truth and resilience for Indigenous Peoples, including the Métis Nation, leaves a profound and lasting legacy. As a renowned Manitoba lawyer who led the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, Murray Sinclair's leadership helped bring the painful realities of residential school Survivors to the forefront of Canada’s consciousness, urging all Canadians to acknowledge and address these truths.
Under Sinclair's leadership, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's (TRC) report, and its 94 Calls to Action within, has enshrined the voices of Survivors in our nation’s history, standing as a testament to their experiences and resilience. Today, the TRC report guides us toward a more just and equitable future, made possible through Murray Sinclair’s invaluable leadership and vision.
As we remember him, we honour his relentless work for truth, justice, and equality, which has paved the way for a brighter future for Métis and all Indigenous Peoples.
