A defender of Métis rights and a catalyst for change, Louis Riel was born in 1844, in Saint-Boniface, Manitoba, the province he later founded. Only 41 years old when he was wrongfully executed, Riel made an impact by fighting for minority rights and will forever be regarded as a founder of confederation, father of Manitoba and leader to Métis everywhere.
