A Statement from Clément Chartier, President, Métis National Council, Regarding Human Rights Museum Comments on Performers at the Opening of Museum

The Winnipeg Free Press quotes the Human Rights Museum spokeswoman Angela Cassie suggesting the “National Métis Council” was consulted on the potential performers who are to participate in the opening of the Human Rights Museum. I can assure the Métis People of Manitoba and the public that the Métis National Council was not consulted on this matter. Had the Métis National Council been asked to provide comments, which we expressly deny, we would have advised the Museum to deal directly with the elected Government of the Métis people in Manitoba, the Manitoba Metis Federation. We regret that the Museum appears to have ignored the legitimate voice of the Manitoba Metis Federation on these important cultural matters.
