The Métis Nation of Alberta has recently released this Plainspeak document to inform Alberta Métis, Métis Nation citizens as well as the public-at-large on the context, current status and legal issues in its ongoing Métis harvesting rights litigation – R. v. Hirsekorn.
The R. v. Hirsekorn case is important to Alberta Métis as well as the entire Métis Nation because it raises important legal issues about the Métis community and Métis mobility, which were not at issue in the landmark Powley case.
The appeal in R. v. Hirsekorn was heard by the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench in June 2011 and Alberta Métis are awaiting a decision in the case. For more information visit the Métis Nation of Alberta’s website at: www.albertametis.com
