Métis Nation Fights to keep the Long-Form Census in
the House of Commons

Ottawa, ON (August 27, 2010) - Métis National Council (MNC) President Clément Chartier is concerned that
recent changes to the Census will have a negative impact on the Métis people in Canada. Appearing today in the House of Commons before the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology, Chartier said the decision to discontinue the long-form census questionnaire will eliminate the primary method of gathering accurate data for Métis.

Chartier underscored the fact that the proposed changes will affect the Métis more than any other Aboriginal people since the federal government has no administrative database for Métis as it does for the First Nations.
